VDI Annual Conference “Injection Molding 2025”: IVW’s Commitment to Standardization and Norm

News25

Standardization plays a crucial role in the introduction of new technologies. The Leibniz Institute for Composite Materials (IVW) is actively engaged in national and international standardization efforts to transfer scientific knowledge into industrial practice.

At the VDI Annual Conference “Injection Molding 2025” in Wiesbaden, the leading industry event for the German-speaking injection molding community, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Neumeyer, chairman of the VDI guideline committee, presented the new VDI Guideline “Thermoplastic Foam Injection Molding”.

A Practical Guide for the Industry

The guideline provides a practical reference for product developers, quality assurance professionals, and manufacturers of foamed components. It covers:

• Key process characteristics
• Selection of suitable process variants and materials
• Product design
• Tool and machine technology
• Economic considerations
• Further processing of finished components

All contents are supported by real-world practical examples. Additionally, the guideline includes a comprehensive definition of terms related to the process.

Availability of the Guideline

The VDI guideline is currently available as a draft version. The final version will be published in May 2025 and will then be available from DIN Media.

With this guideline from VDI e.V., an important contribution is made to further development of thermoplastic foam injection molding.
