RPTU Student Internship at Leibniz-IVW: Insights into the World of Composite Materials

News25

On January 15–16, 2025, we had the pleasure of welcoming Noah Ludes and Junot Howard from the Gymnasium Am Rittersberg in Kaiserslautern to the Leibniz-Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe (IVW). During their internship, they gained exciting insights into the world of composite materials and conducted hands-on experiments in our laboratories.

Topics they explored:

  • Material strength: How stable are different materials, and what factors influence their properties?
  • Reproducibility in the lab: Why are precise and standardized procedures essential?
  • Material comparison: How does paper compare to glass-fiber-reinforced composites?

A special highlight: At the end of the two days, the students took home self-made discs and rulers crafted from composite materials – not just practical everyday items but also great memories of their time with us.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Alexander Kosmas, Ralph Schneider, Christian Becker, Fabian Röder, and Dr. Florian Gortner, whose dedication and expertise made the student internship such a success.

We are delighted to inspire young talents like Noah and Junot and to support them as they take their first steps into the world of science.
