Review: Leibniz MMS Days 2024 - A Successful Conference!

From April 10th to 12th, 2024, the seventh edition of the Leibniz MMS Days took place, organized by the Leibniz Research Network "Mathematical Modeling and Simulation" and hosted by the Leibniz Institute for Composite Materials (IVW) in Kaiserslautern. With 36 member institutions, the network organized by the Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics is the largest within the Leibniz Association.

The conference serves as the annual networking event and platform for interdisciplinary exchange. A total of 75 participants attended the MMS Days 2024, including 24 individuals from outside the Leibniz Association and 51 representatives from 13 different Leibniz Institutes (from all sections A-E). Four thematic areas were emphasized for this year's event and addressed in lecture and poster sessions: Mathematics and Applications of Artificial Intelligence, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Digitalized Materials Science, and Mathematical Modeling and Simulation of Language. A workshop focused on software publication was also part of the program.

Highlights of the event included inspiring presentations by renowned keynote speakers. Nathan Kutz (University of Washington) spoke about revolutionizing science and technology in the age of machine learning, while Claudia Redenbach (University of Kaiserslautern-Landau) discussed stochastic modeling of microstructures. A special highlight was the Science Slam during the conference dinner. This entertaining and educational competition provided young scientists with the opportunity to present their research in an innovative and accessible manner, captivating the audience. Costanza Manganelli secured first place with her presentation on yoga, cats, and mathematics.

The conference was primarily organized by Miro Duhovic and David May (IVW), as well as by Torsten Köhler and Johanna Wiehe (WIAS). We would like to extend our special thanks to them and to the many others who contributed to the success of this conference.
