This ranking is mainly a result of highly cited publications. Friedrich has more than 28,540 citations based on 574 of his list of publications. This brought him at Google Scholar on an H-index of 91 (date December 10, 2020). Professor Friedrich is still highly active at IVW, e.g. as a co-advisor of doctoral dissertations as well as in evaluation of research proposals. He also is ombudsperson for good scientific practice and member of some editorial boards, e.g. Composite Science and Technology (IF 7,094), Tribology international (IF 4,271) and Journal of Materials Science (IF 3,553). 11 of his edited books are internationally well recognized, whereby his recent book (together with Dipl.-Ing.
