Sustainable thermoplastic window frame concept made from overmolded rCF tape inserts

News1News25

In the HESTIA joint project, IVW is developing construction methods and processes for load-path-optimized window frames for future commercial aircraft. For this purpose, tapes made of recycled carbon fibers are used as injection-molded inserts to significantly reduce the CO2 footprint of the components and thus make a significant contribution to environmentally friendly aviation.

The project is being carried out in cooperation with Airbus Operations GmbH, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V., Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung, Airbus Aerostructures GmbH and CirComp GmbH.
