On April 9–10, 2025, Dr. Nicole Motsch-Eichmann, Dr. Andreas Baumann, and Prof. Dr. Joachim Hausmann from the Leibniz Institute for Composite Materials (IVW) participated in the Hybrid Materials and Structures Conference in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. The event was organized by the German Society for Materials Science (DGM) and held at the distinctive venue of the ESA Space Expo.

Their presentations focused on:

  • Hydrogen tanks using aluminum-CFRP hybrid structures

  • Residual stresses in CFRP-steel hybrid components

Chaired by Prof. René Alderliesten (TU Delft), the conference provided an excellent platform for interdisciplinary exchange. Surrounded by aerospace inspiration and concluded with a guided tour of the European Space Agency (ESA), the event fostered dialogue on hybrid material solutions and advanced lightweight technologies. The IVW team shared insights into how the intelligent combination of different material classes can contribute to more efficient and sustainable engineering solutions.
