Igus and IVW Award Innovative Sliding Applications

News1News25

Thermoplastic-based composite materials offer unique potential for friction- and wear-resistant sliding without the need for external lubrication. Thanks to continuous research and development, their tribological load capacity continues to increase. As a result, they can increasingly replace metallic sliding surfaces, which typically rely on external lubrication through oil or grease. The elimination of such lubricants, along with the cost- and energy-efficient processing of these materials, significantly contributes to reducing acquisition and operating costs. At the same time, their environmental impact often improves considerably.

To further promote and showcase this transformation, Igus GmbH has been awarding the manus® award since 2003. A panel of experts selects outstanding examples of economic, technical, social, and ecological innovation from all submissions, which are then honored with the gold, silver, bronze, or green manus® award. Submissions are open until January 17, 2025, via the manus® award website.

In 2025, IVW will once again support Igus GmbH in presenting the manus® award, with Dr.-Ing. Andreas Gebhard, long-time head of IVW’s Tribology Competence Field, serving on the panel of experts. Dr. Gebhard and the entire IVW team wish all participants the best of luck!
