Hands-On Insight into Materials Research: RPTU Schülerinnentag 2024 at Leibniz IVW

How are materials manufactured and tested?

At the RPTU Schülerinnentag 2024, organized by the Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU), participants had the opportunity to explore this in a hands-on workshop at the Leibniz-Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe (IVW).

In this workshop, the students produced sandwich panels with a multi-material structure and examined their bending properties. The test samples were made of plastic plates, adhesive, and wooden sticks. After the tests, the results were analyzed together, and the relevant influencing factors were discussed.

To conclude, the participants were given a tour of the lab, providing them with additional insights into the world of research and technology.
