In early November, the last Type IV pressure vessel, designed for operating pressures of 700 bar, was completed for the final burst tests as part of the MaTaInH2 project at the Leibniz-Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe GmbH under the direction of MAHLE Filtersysteme GmbH. Over the three-year project period, the IVW team optimized the laminate structure in an iterative approach and wound a total of almost 50 complete full-scale tanks. In addition to conventional wet winding as an industrial reference process, the focus was on the use of pre-impregnated fibers, so-called towpreg. In addition to commercial semi-finished products, a new towpreg developed at the Chair of Carbon Composites at the Technical University of Munich was also tested.
