BIOMAT Promotes New CEN and CENELEC Standard for Data-Driven Production Management

News25

The BIOMAT Project has successfully contributed to advancing European standardisation with the publication of the CWA 50751:2024 by CEN and CENELEC. The document, titled "Methodology for the Data-Driven Management of Production Processes," presents a practical and step-by-step framework designed to optimise and enhance the efficiency of production processes, particularly within the circular economy.

The methodology offers several key benefits for companies, such as improved replicability and stability of new production processes, a better understanding of complex bioprocesses, and significant reductions in start-up and optimisation costs. Moreover, it emphasises the importance of traceability, ensuring that both final products and the AI or hybrid-based mathematical models applied are reliably documented.

Developed as part of BIOMAT's Open Innovation Test Bed in nano-enabled bio-based materials, this standard reflects the Project's dedication to making publicly funded research accessible to European industries. A select group of experts created the CWA, a "reduced consensus" document, to quickly introduce cutting-edge research findings into practical, industry-ready standards. This type of material contains new knowledge arising from research and innovation activities and can be further used as a preliminary step toward a full standard (such as EN or ISO).
