University of Kaiserslautern
In 2012 the institute was integrated into the curriculum of the University of Kaiserslautern by professors Dr.-Ing. Ulf Breuer, Dr.-Ing. Martin Maier and Dr.-Ing. Peter Mitschang as well as Privatdozent Dr.-Ing. habil. Norbert Himmel,
complemented by lecturers from industry. In close collaboration with the department of mechanical and process engineering the institute offered 25 hours of lectures and laboratories a week in the summer and winter semesters. Students of the University of Kaiserslautern and University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern gained insight into a modern research institute and current,
promising research subjects by carrying out student research projects and degree theses. 55 student research projects and diploma theses, 2 bachelor and 2 master theses and 6 doctorates were completed in 2012. Colloquia, technology transfer and internships completed IVW’s offer in teaching and research.
The IVW works closely together with the University of Kaiserslautern and its faculties. IVW professors are members of the faculty of mechanical engineering and involved in the education of students. Research cooperation programs are also in place with university institutions of the faculties of physics and chemistry. This ensures an optimized mutual availability of expert knowledge.
Within the "Science Alliance" the IVW cooperates with the University of Kaiserslautern, the Institute for Surface and Thin Film Analysis IFOS, the Max-Planck-Institute for Software Systems, the Institute for Biotechnology and Drug Research ibwf, the Research Institute for Technology and Work, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence DFKI, the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics ITWM and the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering IESE.
Within "EXIST 4" the IVW supports the initiative of the University of Kaiserslautern and the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern to win a special funding within the national contest of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology as "Company Founder University". The present application of the University of Kaiserslautern as "University of Excellence", a title to be given by the German Government, is supported within "CASE". In this new research project fundamental interdependencies of light and matter will be investigated and possible composite applications will be developed in joint research teams of University and IVW staff members.
