Prof. Dr.-Ing. Joachim Hausmann

Professor Hausmann, born 12 June 1970 in Kassel, studied mechanical engineering at Technical University of Darmstadt and Technical University of Kaiserslautern completing his degree in 1997.

Initially, he worked as a development engineer at Comat Composite Materials (now CirComp GmbH) being engaged with project work in the field of CFRP filament- wound components.

In year 2000 he moved on to the Institute of Materials Research of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cologne. There he wrote his dissertation entitled “Modeling and optimization of fiber-reinforced titanium alloys”, whereupon he received his doctorate degree “Dr.-Ing.” at Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) Aachen in 2003.

After further research in the field of titanium matrix composites at DLR and a research position at the National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS) in Tsukuba, Japan, in 2005 he founded the Helmholtz-University Young Investigators Group “Electrolytic production routes for titanium matrix composites” in cooperation with RWTH Aachen. Also in 2005 he was appointed group leader “Hybrid material systems and intermetallics”. In this context, Professor Hausmann extended his research activities on metal polymer hybrid materials and selective laser melting of titanium and titanium aluminides.

In 2014 he was offered a W3-Professorship of mechanical engineering in ”lightweight design of composite materials” at Technical University of Kaiserslautern including the position as Research Director of the division “Component Development” at the Institute for Composite Materials (IVW GmbH).

He is married and has two children.
